Martha E. "Marty" Westfall

  Martha E. “Marty” Westfall, age 92, of Carmi, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She was born September 30, 1918, in Morganfield, KY, the daughter of John A. and Lizetta (Hockenschmidt) Logan. She married Clarence W. “Bud” Westfall and he preceded her in death. Marty was a pioneer for women in many ways. She was a world reknown doll maker and restorer, as well as an author on such matters. She was an announcer and writer for Carmi radio for many years. The U.S. Army hired her as one of the two first women ever to teach telegraphy. She was also a teacher, a pilot, and a world traveler.

She is survived two son and daughters-in-law, Jon and Marilyn Westfall of Carmi, and Fred and Peggy Westfall of Marion, IL; two sisters-in-law, Idel Bowen and Selma Westfall; five grandchildren and their spouses, Doug and Sheila Westfall, Mike and Lei Anne Westfall, Robin and Jerry Sullivan, Tracy and Russ Rau, and Jeff and Tami Westfall; twelve great-grandchildren and their spouses, Ben Westfall, Sarah and Todd Haley, Rachel and Brad Attebury, Tiffany and Jerad Bicket, Lori Anne Westfall, Joshua Sullivan and his companion Darvie Quertermous, Lisa Sullivan-Tallman, Dustin and Anna Rau, Brandon and Katy Rau, Jordan and Amber Rau, Mason Westfall, and Makailey Westfall; ten great-great-grandchildren, Nathalie Westfall, Chase Westfall, Niah Haley, Eva Attebury, Tate Bicket, Davin Sullivan, David Tallman, Leah Rau, Wyatt Rau, Cole Rau, and another yet to be born.; a niece, Judy Bowen; a great-niece, Candy Talley Darnell; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a husband, Clarence; two brothers, William Morris and Raymond and Bowen; a grandson, David Westfall; and a sister, Kathryn Gosnell.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 15, 2011, at 2:00 pm at Stendeback Family Funeral Home/Kittinger-Fair in Carmi. Visitation will be held Saturday, from 5 to 7:00 pm.
