Velma L. Pollard

Velma L. Pollard, age 91, of Carmi, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011, at New Harmonie Health Care in New Harmony, IN. She was born June 12, 1920, in New Haven, IL, the daughter of Fred and Martha Lena (Bates) Pyle.
Velma was an avid gardener, and loved flowers. She worked at Stein's Flowers, and the Green Thumb of Wabash Development. Velma was a member of Cherry Street Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cindy and Terry Trout of Carmi, Robilee Pollard of Carmi, and Judith and Gary Hughes of Norris City; two grandchildren and a granddaughter-in-law, Erin Lea O'Daniel of Evansville, IN, and Matthew and Beth Trout, of McKinney, TX; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Jacob Trout; a niece and her husband, Rita and Tom Coleman of Carrollton, TX; a nephew and his wife, Ronnie and Denise Pyle of Shawnee, OK.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Robert; and a nephew, Randy Pyle.
A graveside memorial service will be held Thursday, August 25, 2011, at 10:00 am, at White County Memorial Gardens in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Senior Citizen's Center. Arrangements have been provided by Stendeback Family Funeral Home/Kittinger-Fair in Carmi.
