Lena M. Melvin
Lena M. Melvin, age 95, formerly of Carmi, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011, at Wayfair in Fairfield Memorial Hospital. She was born February 12, 1916, in Enfield, the daughter of Walter T. and Lura P. (Taylor) Melvin. She was a school teacher from 1933 to 1981 and taught at Satisfaction and the Third grade in the Carmi schools. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. She was a member of Ashland Christian Church.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lionel and Charles Melvin; and twin sisters, Nona Sharer and Oma Gwaltney.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 20, 2011, at 4:00 pm, at Stendeback Family Funeral Home/Kittinger-Fair in Carmi. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until the time of service in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place in Enfield Cemetery.
