Glen “Bob” Hertlein
Glen “Bob” Hertlein, age 81 of Carmi, died Sunday afternoon July 10, 2011 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was born July 24, 1929 in Carmi, the son of Louis and Martha (Barbre) Hertlein.
Glen was married to Ella M. Davis and Naomi Ledford, both deceased. Glen relocated to South Florida after joining the US Navy in 1948-1952. He married Ella Davis in 1950 and Daniel was born in 1953. Glen and Ella divorced in 1980. He married Naomi in 1985 until her death in 2009.
He worked a short time for the Miami Daily News before being employed for 36 years at Eastern Air Lines as an Financial Analyst until 1988 when he retired. Glen also took pride in managing Daniel's rock band in the late 60’s and early 70’s. His main objective was to support his son’s love of music. His love, guidance and support affected over 20 members and to this day, they still get together for annual reunion concerts for Glen. He will be missed by all he had contact with. He was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Pembroke Pines, Florida serving as a deacon and elder.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Hertlein and Kathryn Chess of CA; one brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Louise Hertlein of Carmi; three sisters and brother-in-law, Lyndell and Buck Brennan of Carmi, Elizabeth Comer of Carmi and Stella Whetstone of Mt. Carmel. He was preceded indeath by two sisters, Cuma Wigley and Louella Bingman.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 9:30 a.m. On Wednesday July 13, 2011 at Maple Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Roger Whetstone officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Carmi American Legion and V.F.W. No visitation will be held.
