Darrel K. Hanks
Darrel K. Hanks, age 76, of Carmi, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011, at his home. He was born March 28, 1935, in Illinois, the son of Ellison “Rube” and Elsie (Prince) Hanks. He joined the Army and trained as a paratrooper. Upon his discharge, he returned home and began farming. Darrel raised and showed quarter horses. He enjoyed fishing and attended Crossville Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Greg and Nancy Hanks of Huntsville, Alabama, and Darren Hanks of Carmi; a daughter, Michelle Hanks-Scamahorn of Tennessee; a stepson and his wife, Woody and Jodi Puntney of Mt. Vernon, IN; a brother, John Wiggins of Florida; six grandchildren, Elea , Brandon, and Morgan Hanks, Aaron Hanks, Ashley (Mike) McQuin, and Ryan Hanks; and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 7:00 pm, at Stendeback Family Funeral Home/Kittinger-Fair in Carmi. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Military funeral rites will be provided by the Carmi VFW and American Legion Posts. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
