Vertis R. Englebright, age 94 of Carmi, died Tuesday morning December 13, 2011 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center. He was born March 3, 1917 in Carmi, the son of Victor and Grace (Duckworth) Englebright. He married Ruby Staley on August 20, 1947 in Morganfield, KY and she preceded him in death on October 16, 2006.
Vertis built and ran a blacksmith and welding shop in Burnt Prairie for 16 years beginning in 1960. He retired from the maintenance department at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. He was a WWII United States Army Veteran, serving in the South Pacific with the 38th Division, 163rd Field Artillary. He was a member of the Carmi V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers, Clarence, Hubert and Jerry; and one sister, Evelyn Whitting. He is survived by He is survived a brother, John Englebrightand nieces and a nephew.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday December 17, 2011 at Centerville Cemetery. No visitation will be held. The Stendeback Family Funeral Home/Kittinger-Fair in Carmi is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at Kittinger-fairfuneralhome.com
