Beverly "Bev" Abascal

Beverly "Bev" Abascal, 79, graduating class of '51 Lew Wallace High "Hornets," formerly of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., passed over in the early evening hours of Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012 while in the care of loved ones and Deaconess Hospice Care in Evansville, Ind.
Bev was born one of four daughters to Samuel and Victoria Ferich, Aug. 30, 1932, in Gary, Ind. (none survive).
She and her husband, John Abascal, celebrated over 57 years of marriage (wed June 2, 1951). John passed over three years and three days prior (Jan. 7, 2009).
The children who love Bev survive: daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Mark Gwaltney of Carmi, and daughter and boyfriend, Cam Abascal and Mike Gwaltney of Orlando, Fla.
Family distant in miles but always close in heart are brother-in-law, Steve Zubek of Merrillville, Ind.; nephew, Greg and Connie Zubek and daughters, Sally and Mollie, Carmel, Ind.; nieces, Susan Zubek-Mitchell, Crown Point, Ind., and Lee Ann and Jim Terstenyak and their daughters Jessica (with us in heart and memory) and Chrissy of Chesterton, Ind.
John's reputation as a premier builder afforded them the opportunity to move their beloved family to southeast Florida in 1969, where they enjoyed a flourishing business in Building, Developing Land and Real Estate.
During her life, Bev gave of her time and talents. In addition to working with her husband in their business, she coordinated benefit fashion shows, chaperoned endless community and school activities and events and made herself readily available for any friend in need.
Recently she has enjoyed a restful life with "Ms. Furella," a feline friend that she adopted from Pets At Risk.
Bev so enjoyed her and her husband's move to Carmi in 1999.
She is very thankful to the fine friends she made throughout her life and the wonderful people of Carmi who made her feel so welcomed.
A memorial is set for Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi. Friends may call at 2 p.m., with a celebration of Bev and John's time here and in eternity at 3 p.m.
Bev and her family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Pets At Risk, PO Box 2, Carmi, IL 62821.
The Lord's Blessings One & All.
